Veterans Administration Data Breach Litigation

Goldenberg Schneider filed the first nationwide class action on behalf of hundreds of thousands of veterans and current members of the military who were impacted by the August 2006 theft of personal data under the Federal Privacy Act. The stolen data included sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers and dates of birth. Additional cases were filed across the country, all of which were consolidated through the multidistrict litigation process before the Federal District Court in the District of Columbia. Goldenberg Schneider was appointed Co-Lead Counsel. This case successfully settled for $20 million to provide reimbursements for out-of-pocket expenses incurred by class members.  Also, as a result of this settlement, more than $13 million was distributed to two worthy veterans-related charities: the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and the Fisher House Foundation.
