Shields Health Care Group, Inc. (“Shields”) is an imaging and management service company for more than 40 medical providers in New England. On June 7, 2022, DataBreaches.net reported on Shields’ massive data breach that affected 2 million patients’ personal identifiable information (“PII”) and/or personal health information (“PHI”). “PII” and “PHI” that was or may have been compromised includes full name, Social Security number, date of birth, address, provider information, diagnosis, billing information, insurance number and information, medical record number, patient ID, and other medical or treatment information.
According to the DataBreaches.net as well as Shields’ website, an unauthorized party gained access to certain Shields’ systems from March 7, 2022, to March 21, 2022; a security alert was identified by Shields on or about March 18, 2022; Shields submitted notification of the breach to the U.S. Department of Health on or about May 27, 2022; and a notification was posted on Shields’ website on or about June 7, 2022.
