Nearly 2 million individuals had their personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information(PHI) compromised due to a ransomware attack experienced by Professional Finance Company (PFC). PFC is an accounts receivable firm with headquarters in Greeley, CO. Its clients include dental practices, physicians groups and hospitals. The ransomware attack was detected on February 26, 2022; PFC clients were notified on May 5, 2022; and PFC submitted their breach notification to the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services on July 1, 2022. An investigation found compromised PII and PHI included names, addresses, accounts receivable balance, and info about payments. In some cases, DOBs SSNs, health insurance and medical treatment.
