Mortgage professionals utilize software systems to assist with residential mortgage application processing. One software vendor, focusIT, Inc., experienced a data breach from June 6, 2022-August 3, 2022. The breach exposed personally identifiable information (“PII”) of mortgage professionals who utilize their software. The “PII” included names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and addresses. 147,799 individuals had their “PII” exposed because of the breach. The breach was discovered on August 2, 2022; focusIT, Inc. began notifying affected individuals on September 28, 2022.
