UnitedHealthcare Student Resources/Progress MOVEit Data Breach Investigation

An undisclosed number of college and university students have been affected by a data breach involving UnitedHealthcare Student Resources (“Student Resources”) and Progress Software. Student Resources utilized MOVEit, a file transfer software produced by Progress Software. A vulnerability was discovered in the software on May 29, 2023 allowing an unauthorized actor to access Student Resources systems and removing personal information from the system on May 27, 2023. The personal information included names, social security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, plan identification numbers, policy information, student identification numbers, claims information, including claim numbers, provider information, dates of service, diagnosis codes, prescription information, and claims financial information. Student Resources posted notification of the breach on July 21, 2023 on its website.
