LivaNova USA, Inc. Data Breach Investigation

LivaNova USA is a medical technology company specializing in cardiopulmonary equipment, Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS ) Therapy implants (for depression and epilepsy), and Sleep Apnea Therapy implants. On October 26, 2024, LivaNova USA experienced a data breach when an unauthorized character gained access to its network. The breach exposed 129,219 individuals’ personally identifiable information (“PII”) and protected health information (“PHI”). The PII and PHI included name, contact information (e.g., phone number, email and postal address), Social Security number, date of birth, medical information (e.g., treatment, condition, diagnosis, prescription, physician, medical record number and device serial number), and health insurance information. Though the breach was discovered on November 19,2023, notification letters were not sent to affected individuals until May 31, 2024.
