Ernst & Young/Bank of America/Progress MOVEit Data Breach Investigation

On Behalf of | Jul 8, 2024 | Firm News |

According to reports filed with the California and Texas Attorney General Offices, an undisclosed number of Bank of America customers had the following information compromised due to a May 2023 data breach involving Ernst and Young, a service provider for Bank of America: name, address, financial account information, social security number, debit or credit card numbers, and/or other unique government-issued identification numbers. A breach involving the same parties was reported on August 9, 2023, and at that time the number of affected individuals was 30,210. Because a July 2024 report disclosed that 8,628 Texans alone were affected, it’s believed the number of affected individuals has grown. The breach was the product of a vulnerability in Progress Software Corporation’s file transfer application known as MOVEit Transfer. Ernst and Young utilized MOVEit while providing services to Bank of America.
