Evolve Bank & Trust (“Evolve”) / Affirm / Wise / Bilt Data Breach Investigation

On Behalf of | Jul 8, 2024 | Firm News |

In late May, Evolve Bank & Trust identified unauthorized activity in its network. It later learned a ransomware group, LockBit, had gained access when an employee inadvertently clicked on a malicious internet link. Evolve did not pay the ransom; since then, the stolen data has been leaked. Personally identifiable information was compromised and it included names, Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, and contact information such as address and email address. The Evolve breach has had a spillover effect on Evolve’s clients. Affirm Holdings shares Affirm Card users’ personal information (“PI”)with Evolve to facilitate the issuance and servicing of Affirm Cards. Affirm Holdings believes Affirm Card users’ “PI” was compromised as part of Evolve’s cybersecurity incident. Fintech firms Wise and Bilt claim to have been affected as well by the Evolve breach. Wise has informed its customers that they shared full names, addresses, contact details, Social Security numbers, and other sensitive information with Evolve as part of a partnership between 2020 and 2023. It’s been reported that Bilt has notified its customers that its partnership with Evolve may have led to the compromise of sensitive customer information. Evolve is expected to email notifications to all persons confirmed to have been impacted by the incident on July 8, 2024.
