Excelsior Orthopaedics Data Breach Investigation

On or about June 18, 2024, Excelsior Orthopaedics experienced a breach that compromised the personally identifiable information (“PII”) of its patients as well as patients of the Buffalo Surgery Center and Northtowns Orthopaedics. The compromised “PII” of the nearly 357,000 current and former patients included full name, address, date of birth, Social Security Number, Driver’s License number, non-driver identification card number, and biometric information. The breach was discovered on June 23, 2024; however, the majority of the breach victims were not notified until they received a December 31, 2024 notification.
