Globe Life Data Breach Investigation

On Behalf of | Feb 6, 2025 | Firm News |

According to a June 2024 report filed by Globe Life, Inc. with the U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), the insurer was investigating a web portal vulnerability that “likely resulted in unauthorized access to certain consumer and policyholder information.” In October 2024, the insurer submitted another report to the “SEC” about extortion by cybercriminals. The cybercriminals were seeking payment from Globe Life, Inc. in exchange for not sharing information held by the insurance company and its agent representatives. At the time, it was believed 5,000 customers’ and customer leads’ personally identifiable information (“PII”) and protected health information (“PHI”) was at risk. The “PII” and “PHI” included names, Social Security numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, health-related data, and other policy information. Notification letters were being sent to the 5,000 individuals. In a report with a January 30, 2025 filing date, the company disclosed an additional 850,000 individuals would be notified about the compromise of their “PII” and “PHI”. If you or someone you know receives a notification letter about the data breach and would like additional information about your legal rights, you can contact Goldenberg Schneider, LPA by calling 513-982-1569, sending an email to [email protected] or completing the “Contact Us” form to the right.
