Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty (“Hertz”) utilize Cleo Communications’ file transfer system (“FTS”). Though Hertz’ specific use of the Cleo FTS is unknown, in some cases, FTS is used to transfer employee files between organizations. According to a report filed with a state agency, an unauthorized character took advantage of a vulnerability in the Cleo’s platform in October and December 2024 and gained access to personally identifiable information (“PII”) and protected health information (“PHI”) maintained by Hertz. The “PII” and “PHI” includes name; date of birth; Social Security number; address; Driver’s License number; Government-issued ID number (e.g. passport, state ID card); financial Information (e.g. account number, credit or debit card number); and health Insurance information. On or about April 12, 2025, Hertz began notifying the affected individuals. If you or someone you know receives a notification letter from Hertz about a data breach involving the Cleo file transfer server and would like additional information about your legal rights, you can contact Goldenberg Schneider, LPA by calling 513-982-1569, sending an email to [email protected] or completing the “Contact Us” form to the right.
