Keffer Development Services [aka Athletic Trainer System(“ATS”)] produces software used by athletic trainers, medical professionals, athletes, students, coaches, administrators, and parents. The “ATS” data base includes student-athletes’ personal information. Between 2015 and 2023, Matthew Weiss, a former University of Michigan football coach, downloaded personal and health related information of 150,000 female student athletes after gaining unauthorized access to databases maintained by ATS. Allegedly, Weiss also used the database to gain access to the students’ email, social media and cloud storage accounts, and downloaded compromising photos and videos. According to federal prosecutors, Weiss gained access to digital accounts of more than 3,300 individuals that included student athletes, college students and alumni. Victims have received communications about the breach from the University of Michigan as well as Mega Victim Case Assistance Program (“MCAP”). If you or someone you know receives a communication about the data breach or believe you are a victim of the breach and would like additional information about your legal rights, you can contact Goldenberg Schneider, LPA by calling 513-982-1569, sending an email to or completing the “Contact Us” form to the right.
