Liberty Bankers Insurance Group, including Capitol Life Insurance Company Data Breach

On May 14th, 2025, Liberty Bankers Insurance Group, including Capitol Life Insurance Company (“LBL”) reported a breach of sensitive data to the Texas Attorney General’s Office. LBL has worked in congruence with Capitol Life Insurance since their purchase in 2007 to provide clients with life insurance protections and annuities in 47 states. LBL and Capitol also began offering Medicare Supplemental Insurance in 2016, according to their website. The breach has reportedly threatened the personally identifiable information, and personal health information, of 287,109 people, as of May 14th, 2025. These elements include names, dates of birth, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, medical information, and health insurance information. At this time, LBL has not disclosed the date (or span of dates) that the breach occurred, or the date the breach was discovered internally.
