Marlboro-Chesterfield Pathology P.C. Data Breach Investigation

On May 9, 2025, Marlboro-Chesterfield Pathology P.C. (“MCP”), located in Pinehurst, North Carolina, reported a data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The breach which occurred on January 16, 2025 allowed unauthorized access to the sensitive personal health information (“PHI”) of 235,911 individuals. Given the increasing frequency of cyberattacks upon healthcare organizations, it is not uncommon for the numbers of effected individuals to increase. According to MCP’s notice letter to potential victims of the breach, compromised information may include names, dates of birth, addresses, medical treatment information, and health insurance information, such as policy numbers.
