New York Blood Center Enterprises Data Breach Investigation

According to its website, New York Blood Center Enterprises (“NYBCE”) is “one of the world’s largest independent community-based blood centers, serving over 75 million people across the country” delivering “lifesaving blood products, specialty pharmaceuticals, and high-quality clinical, technical, testing, and consultative services to healthcare providers and patients.” Between January 20 and January 26, 2025, the organization experienced a breach of its network by an unauthorized party. The breach compromised individuals’ names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or other government identification card numbers and/or financial account information. Though the breach was discovered on January 26, 2025, it wasn’t until 7 months later that the organization began notifying affected individuals by mail.
