TransUnion Data Breach Investigation

TransUnion is one of three credit bureaus in the United States, and it recently reported a data breach that compromised nearly 4.5 million individuals’ social security information. The breach occurred on July 28, 2025 and the bureau began notifying affected individuals on August 26, 2025 by mail. Reportedly, the breach is related to a vendor named Salesforce, whose network was breached on May 29, 2025. In late August, the bureau submitted reports about the breach to various state attorney generals’ offices.
