Wakefield & Associates Data Breach Investigation

Wakefield & Associates (“Wakefield”) is a revenue and collections company based in Knoxville, TN, that provides services to healthcare providers across the country. On September 24, 2025, Wakefield discovered a breach of their internal systems that had occurred seven months prior on January 14, 2025. Although total breach numbers are currently unknown, the hack affected 18,933 South Carolina residents and 26,624 residents in Montana alone. Wakefield’s breach could potentially involve the personally identifiable information (“PII”) and protected health information (“PHI”) of hundreds of thousands of victims. The compromised information includes, but is not limited to names, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account information, collections account information, and health information. Impacted victims did not begin to be notified until November 7, 2025 – nearly a year after the incident occurred.
