Illinois Department of Human Services Data Breach Investigation

Illinois Department of Human Services (“IDHS”) is a state agency that administers public assistance and health-related programs. On or about September 22, 2025, IDHS reported that internal planning maps were publicly accessible online due to incorrect privacy settings. The maps contained information relating to individuals participating in certain IDHS programs. The exposed information may have included names, addresses, case numbers, demographic information, and other program-related data. IDHS has stated that the information may have been accessible for several years before the issue was identified and corrected.
