Monroe University Data Breach

On Behalf of | Jan 15, 2026 | Firm News |

Monroe University (“MU”) is an educational institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs at campuses located in New Rochelle, NY and the Bronx, NY. Additionally, MU has a satellite campus located on the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean, and a robust online program. For two weeks, from December 9, 2024, to December 23, 2024, MU experienced a data security infiltration that jeopardized the personally identifiable information (“PII”) and personal health information (“PHI”) of at least 320,973 current/former students and employees. Compromised information includes, but is not limited to, names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, government identification numbers, medical information, health insurance information, electronic account or email usernames and passwords, financial account information, and student data. MU did not discover the breach until September 30, 2025, and did not begin mailing notification letters to affected individuals until January 2, 2026, potentially too late to mitigate the damage caused by the breach. If you or someone you know is a current/former student or employee of MU and receives a notification letter about the data breach and would like additional information about your legal rights, you can contact Goldenberg Schneider, LPA by calling 513-982-1569, sending an email to [email protected] or completing the “Contact Us” form to the right.
