Goldenberg Schneider is currently investigating a hazardous materials release in Toledo, Ohio. A haze of hazardous materials released from a chemical tank forced hundreds of residents in Ohio to evacuate or shelter in place, with authorities watching for a potential explosion risk. The incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at the MC Tank Transport terminal in north Toledo, Ohio, causing the release of glycidyl methacrylate, an industrial coating product that is stored as a liquid but was released into the air as a gas. The chemical can cause burning of the eyes, nose, mouth and skin, and symptoms of overexposure include headache, dizziness, tiredness, nausea and vomiting.
At 10:48 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, Toledo Fire & Rescue ordered everyone within a 1-mile radius of 1266 Progress Ave (the MC Tank Transport Terminal) to evacuate because of the hazardous materials release. The release is ongoing, and crews continue to monitor the situation.
At 4:24 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, Toledo Fire & Rescue ordered everyone within a 3-mile radius to shelter in place. This means stay where you are, stay indoors, close windows and doors, and turn off ventilation that draws in outside air. Keep pets indoors.
