Monument, Inc.’s Unauthorized Disclosure of Personal Information

Monument, Inc. is a leading online alcohol treatment platform offering patient-members virtual appointments and, in some cases, prescriptions for alcohol treatment medications. On March 28, 2023, Monument informed it’s patient-members in a letter that it had disclosed sensitive data to advertisers [such as Meta (Facebook), Google, Bing and Pinterest] via pixel/tracking technologies. The data included the patients’ names, dates of birth, email and postal addresses, phone numbers and membership numbers associated with the company and patients’ insurance provider, person’s photo, unique digital ID, information related to the patients’ services or plan, appointment information and assessment and survey responses submitted by the patient, which includes detailed responses about a person’s alcohol consumption used to determine their course of treatment. Monument had shared this information with the advertisers since January 2020. Additionally, due to Monument’s acquisition of Tempest, Inc., similar data of Tempest patient-members had been disclosed to advertisers since November 2017.
