Prudential Insurance Co. of America/ Pension Benefit Information (PBI)/ Progress MOVEit Data Breach Investigation

Prudential Insurance Co. of America experienced a data breach due to Pension Benefit Information’s (PBI) use of the MOVEit file transfer tool. The MOVEit file transfer software contained a vulnerability that was discovered on May 29, 2023. The vulnerability resulted in the exposure and theft of personally identifiable information from millions of individuals, including 320,840 clients of Prudential Insurance Co. Prudential clients had their name, address, date of birth, phone number, and Social Security number compromised. Many of these individuals, were retirees in the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust Fund. PBI began issuing breach notification letters to affected individuals on July 31, 2023.
