On May 29 – May 30, 2023, Progress Software discovered a vulnerability in its MOVEit Transfer software. The MOVEit Transfer software is utilized by Pension Benefits Information (“PBI”) who in turn provides audit and research services for TIAA. The MOVEit vulnerability resulted in exposure of pensioners’ personal information including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, and genders. Though Progress Software disclosed the vulnerability on May 31, 2023, PBI did not begin notifying the 2 million plus compromised individuals until July 14, 2023.
