Pension Benefit Information, LLC (“PBI”) is a benefits vendor used by Consumer Reports’ vendor, PNC Bank. PBI utilized Progress Software MOVEit Transfer to electronically transfer files between Consumer Reports and PNC Bank; the files contained annuitants’ personal information. A vulnerability was discovered in Progress Software’s MOVEit Transfer on May 29, 2023; and, soon thereafter, PBI learned annuitants’ personal information had been exposed when an unauthorized character accessed their MOVEit Transfer servers. Consumer Reports learned about the exposure of annuitants’ information from PNC on July 24, 2023; and on August 18, 2023, PBI was expected to notify the impacted individuals that their names, dates of birth, social security numbers, resident states/zip codes had been exposed.
